Orchestra Filarmonica della Sicilia
The Orchestra Filarmonica della Sicilia consists out of a passionate and motivated ensemble of 55 musicians reflecting the tamper of the Sicilian Italian population.
Born in Palermo in 2010 under the presidency of the “SiciliArte cultural music association”, and is prepared by the baton of Maestro Marco Alibrando, conductor of the Orchestra.
In the presence of the most important authorities, the orchestra made its debut with Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana at the Teatro Biondo in Palermo in October 2010 and enjoyed great success with audiences and critics. Then, in the same year, a review of major musical projects operated within the prestigious Church of the SS. Salvatore di Palermo, where some of the most important pages of symphonic and lyrical literature are interpreted: Symphony n. 25 K 183 by Mozart, Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini and Requiem K 626 by Mozart for soloists, chorus and orchestra, to name a few.
From 2011 to today the orchestra has an intense concert activity that over the years has seen her protagonist at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele of Messina, at the Politeama di Catanzaro Theater and at the Rome Orchestra Festival, at the Macerata Opera Festival, at the Vicenza International Festival in Lirica and with the staging of some of the most important works of the Italian repertoire: Il Trovatore and La Traviata by Verdi, L’Elisir d’amore by Donizetti, Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini, La Bohème by Puccini. Scenography and costumes by the SiciliArte Association.
In 2016 another important stop in Malta at the Manozo Theater in Gozo for a series of Galà Lirici which boasts the collaboration of the imposing Coro Lirico Mediterraneo, another great resource managed by SiciliArte from 2015 to today.
In October 2014 the orchestra was the protagonist of a tour in Spain. The Teatro Real in Madrid, the Gran Liceu in Barcelona, the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo, the Palace of Arts in Valencia are the theaters that have hosted exciting pages of Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert’s production.
Since the beginning of its activity to date, the Orchestra Filarmonica della Sicilia has produced more than eighty productions in Sicily and abroad, with extraordinary successes in both audiences and critics everywhere. The next commitments for the 2018 summer season include the staging of Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, Verdi’s Rigoletto, Galà lirici in Sicily and scattered throughout Italy.
